Raising Meat Chickens

      Many years ago, I got 10 Cornish Cross meat chickens to try and raise a little meat for my family. It was May and they were cute and cuddly and were fun to watch as they snapped up bugs and gorged on clover blossoms. As butchering time approached and they became big, clumsy beasts, it was July. They were not fairing well in the heat. They panted and waddled over to their water and then stretched back out in the shade. Occasionally one would be dead for no apparent reason, though I suspected the heat was playing a role.
      I decided I wasn't doing that again! Losing a six pound bird is expensive, not to mention the animals didn't seem too happy in the heat. Who could blame them?

       Looking for clean and edifying entertainment for the whole family? Check out the audio stories on Your Story Hour! When the children are sick or nursing a injury and are bed bound, these stories pass the time. When we are in the car on long trips, these make the time fly by. When cooking dinner and the children are hungry and antsy, listening to a story calms all of our nerves.
       They have stories with a lesson, historical nonfiction stories, and Bible stories too! They are so engrossing, my husband has been known to sit in the car in the driveway until the story is over, when he would normally be jumping on to the next project.

Wood Stove Maple Syrup

     
  The wood stove is such a versatile beast. It warms the home, but can double as a stove. If built for the purpose of baking, it can do that too! Since it is running all the time for the purpose of heat, the latter two are thrown in for FREE! Why not use that heat to cook down a little maple syrup too?

      Lord willing, we will grow out of our mini van by the end of the summer. As we were approaching this new child's birthday, we have been watching for a larger van. We did not know exactly what the Lord would provide, but we felt strongly that it would be inexpensive.

You Can Do A Lot With A Little!

     My dear husband has shown me how to stretch a dollar time and time again. We began building our house almost 2 and a half years ago. I always new he was a saver but I had no idea just how much until he started assembling our "new" home out supplies he had been collecting over the years from different sources.
