Great Logo Design Roll-OUT

Logos are a visual expression of one's business. It is the logo and name of the business that customers will remember.....so it has to be memorable! We worked with budding graphic designer, Elizabeth Hoffman, and lots of consumer feedback, to come up with the logo we have today.

Working With A Graphic Designer

"Harnessed"
We have been very pleased with Elizabeth Hoffman's work from Squirrel Size! Before we even started working together, I was able to see her former works and accomplishments. Her works are varied and award-winning. In other words, she is very versatile and enjoys working in many mediums.  This allows us to do many creative things. From screenprinting to making stamps from scratch, to basic video making and printed materials: she has experience.

Sail away on this ship made entirely of cardboard!
We wanted to start with our logo, because after our name, we felt it was pretty foundational marketing wise. It sets the stage for our website colors and look. It will also be expressed in the colors we wear at events, and of course, our logo will be on all of our print materials, brochures, business cards, etc.
Elizabeth started with some concept drawings and we discussed the emotions we wanted our logo to exude. Because the quality of life for our cows is the top priority, we wanted there to be a sense of kinship that could be felt between the animals and people.

 Choosing A Logo

After settling on a few concept drawings, we used Survey Monkey and Facebook to poll our social media contacts, friends, and family. We wanted to know which concept they liked the best and also how it made them feel when they looked at it. It was a great experience and interestingly Elizabeth's work was so good people had a hard time choosing. Invariably it was almost always a 50/50 split!
After narrowing it down to the basic design, we needed to choose colors. I read a lot about colors. Of course small business owners wear many different hats, and this is marketing ground zero! Understanding the psychology of color helps to make our logo more appealing. Also, I wanted to make it one color so that later I could stamp our logo onto various items as promotional materials or gifts.

 Labeling

Because we were more than half way there, we decided to continue the logo by finishing out the label details. If food products are only sold with-in the state/farmers markets, then a state official can determine what should be on the label. In our case it was the Milk Safety Branch and our facility inspector, Frank Jackson. By emailing him the various options and including the pertinent information, the process has been smooth and rewarding. (Special note on our inspector, Frank. It has been a great deal of fun working with him as we plan all these endeavors out. From buying our vat to connecting us with Heavenly Homestead, it has been like working with a trusted advisor.)

And now we are are closing in on the date when our cheese is ready to take out of the aging room and market to the public. Next big thing, photography. I think it will transform our website into something much more professional. Stay tuned!
